As a small local family practice, we pride ourselves on building strong relationships with our patients. We remember you by name, understand your preferences, and tailor treatment plans to your unique needs. You’re not just a number; you’re part of our dental family.
While big fancy clinics may focus on volume, we prioritise quality. Our team takes the time to listen, educate, and provide personalised solutions. Your well-being is our top priority.
Also, despite our size, we offer a wide range of specialist treatments right here in our practice: orthodontic treatments whether these are aligners or braces, periodontal (gum) treatment, implant placements, wide range of oral surgery, Intravenous sedation and more!
And, of course, last but not least thing to mention is that we’re part of the Clondalkin community, and we’re committed to its oral health. Supporting local businesses and families is at the heart of what we do.
Are there any payment plans available at Clondalkin Dental?
At our clinic, we go the extra mile to find solutions for each patient. We understand that certain treatments can be financially challenging, especially when they’re unexpected or urgent. As a small local practice, we’ve devised an effective solution for complex treatments.
Typically, expensive procedures involve multiple visits. To ease the financial burden, we divide the treatment cost into installments across multiple visits. For example, if orthodontic treatment spans 12 months, we split it into 12 payments that you pay on each of your appointments. Similarly, implant treatments can be divided into 2-3 installments over the course of the entire treatment.
Another option is to explore external payment plans. If you hold a Mastercard credit card, you may qualify for our Mastercard installment payment option (that we have just introduced with our partnering bank). Additionally, consider checking Anpost’s short-term loans—they offer competitive interest rates and specifically cover dental treatments
How often I should be visiting the dentist?
For most patients once a year is often enough to come in for a check-up. For others, they might need to come a little bit more often. For example, if you’ve had a lot of work done at your previous appointment or if you have issues with your gums, then it might be necessary to come in every 6 month, possibly even every 3 months.
At your check-up, your dentist will check your teeth for decay and for signs of gum disease. We will also check the soft tissues for any illnesses that may show up in your mouth. Coming in regularly for your check-up allows to pick up cavities while they are still small, allows to pick up gum disease while it is still easily treatable and pick up any other issues that you may be having before they become a big problem. Like anything else – prevention is better than cure!

How do I know if I am grinding my teeth?
You might not actually know that you are grinding your teeth. That’s something your dentist will look for during your examination. They may notice marks on the inside of your cheeks, on the sides of your tongue, or areas of wear on the biting edges of your teeth. If you do notice it yourself, you might be aware of tension or tenderness in the muscles on the sides of your face, clicking, popping, or cracking in the jaw joint, as well as sensitivity in your teeth. Fillings may frequently crack or break due to grinding.
To address this, try to relax at night before going to bed and apply warm compresses to the sides of your face. If these measures are not successful, you might consider using a nightguard. Our lab can manufacture a custom-made guard for you to protect your teeth from the effects of grinding.
Do I need sportsguards?
Sportsguards can protect your teeth from the effects of impacts, such as chipping, fracturing, or even knocking them together. Additionally, they can protect your cheeks and lips from injuries. There is some evidence to suggest that wearing a gumshield may help prevent concussions.
The custom sportsguards we offer provide extra benefits that off-the-shelf options do not. For example, because they are custom-made, they fit much closer to your teeth, making them far more comfortable to wear. This also means you can breathe and speak more easily while playing your sport.
If you play contact sports, then yes, you need a sportsguard.
How do I know if I need composite bonding or porcelain crowns/veneers?
Composite Bonding involves applying dental resin to your teeth to hide flaws and enhance aesthetics. It’s great for minor issues like chipped teeth, gaps, or small irregularities. It’s an affordable, quick procedure and removes less of your natural tooth then crowns. But it is less durable and may need replacement every 7–10 years as well as regular polishing and maintainance with your dental checkups.
Porcelain Veneers and Crowns on the other hand are custom-made porcelain shells or cups that cover your teeth for a flawless look. They are ideal for cosmetic purposes – stains, chips, or irregular shapes. They have natural appearance and last longer. But they are more pricey.
Think of these solutions as being a choice based on your needs, budget, and time you are ready to spend on maintenance of your teeth!
I want the whitest colour possible veneers, can I get it done with you?
When it comes to achieving the whitest veneers, there are a couple of important points to consider:
The whitest veneers are typically available in the shades BL1. This colour is the lightest possible option for porcelain, if you want a truly bright smile.
However, while the whitest shades can look stunning, it’s essential to strike a balance between natural and dazzling. Consider celebrities like Emma Watson, Demi Lovato, and Dakota Johnson. Their smiles appear natural and expensive. There is a concept of Biomimetic dentistry and it aims to create restorations that mimic natural teeth, ensuring a harmonious and lifelike appearance.
Remember, achieving the perfect shade involves collaboration between you and your dentist. They’ll help you find the balance that suits your preferences and enhances your overall appearance.
Are over-the-counter (OTC) teeth whitening products safe enough?
Over-the-counter (OTC) whitening products can be problematic. Due to regulations in Ireland limiting the concentration of hydrogen peroxide in OTC products, they often rely on abrasive ingredients. This can lead to: increased tooth and gum sensitivity, faster tooth decay, irritation of gums and other soft tissues. Additionally, OTC-whitened teeth tend to stain more quickly because of these abrasive components.
Teeth whitening with a dentist offers numerous advantages:
- Effective Ingredients: We use professional-grade whitening products that deliver superior results compared to OTC options.
- Safety Monitoring: The whitening process is closely monitored to minimise risks like sensitivity or gum irritation.
- Tooth Rehydration: Our whitening gels contain ingredients that rehydrate your teeth, which is essential for maintaining overall tooth health.

I have noticed gum bleeding when brushing my teeth, should I be concerned?
If you did not have a mechanical damage to your gums recently, then spotting bleeding is the first sign that you need to have a closer look at your oral health. If you notice:
- Gums Swelling like a puffy marshmallow
- Bleeding when you brush or floss
- Gums Turning redder
- You Feel tender and sensitive
These can be the first Signs of gum disease. If you spot any of the above signs, it’s time to speak to your dentist. Ignoring gum issues can lead to:
- Gingivitis (early gum disease)
- Periodontitis
- Your gums might also recede, showing off tooth roots and making your teeth super sensitive
- Tooth loss
- Bad gums can mess with your overall health, spreading unnecessary bacteria and inflammation in your body.
So be careful, be cautious and take care of yourself by paying the deserved attention to your oral health.
What effects not having a couple of teeth can have on my health?
When you’re missing teeth, neighbouring teeth can start to shift. It’s like a dental domino effect, which can lead to very costly orthodontic procedures. Aesthetically, gaps can affect your smile and confidence. Missing teeth also disrupt your bite, making chewing uneven and potentially causing your jaw joints to become painful or “grumpy.” Keep in mind that chewing is the first step in digestion. If you can’t chew properly, your stomach might be affected.
Overall, missing teeth can impact how you talk, how you look, and even your long-term oral health. Without teeth, your jawbone can shrink over time, which might eliminate the possibility of restoring your smile in later years.
If you’re missing teeth, come and talk to us. We have a variety of solutions for different budgets, including:
- Dentures: These can be a cost-effective option, but wearing them for too long may cause your gums and bones to recede, and they can sometimes be uncomfortable.
- Bridges: A great option to fix the gap.
- Implants: Titanium roots that hold crowns, offering the best long-term solution for replacing missing teeth.
What are my options if I am missing a few or more teeth?
When you’re missing one or more teeth, something needs to fill that space. Otherwise, your teeth may start to move, your bite can change, and your bone may begin to lose its strength. At Clondalkin Dental, we offer:
- Dentures: These can be a cost-effective option, but wearing them for too long may cause your gums and bones to recede, and they can sometimes be uncomfortable.
- Bridges: Imagine a bridge connecting two islands (your existing teeth). A fixed dental bridge works the same way—it spans the gap left by a missing tooth. The bridge consists of a prosthetic tooth (or teeth) anchored to the adjacent natural teeth. Bridges are more budget-friendly than implants, but they require diligent oral hygiene. It’s important to keep this in mind if you’re ready to invest more time daily in taking care of your new smile.
- Implants: These tiny titanium posts are surgically placed into your jawbone, where they act as sturdy anchors for your new teeth. Dental implants look and feel natural, and with proper oral care, they can last a lifetime.
Is it worth going abroad to get my teeth done?
The idea of combining dental treatment with a vacation can be tempting, but the risks often outweigh the benefits. Your health should always come first. Rushed treatments abroad can lead to complications such as retreatments, gum inflammation, or worse. Addressing these issues back home can often cost more than the original treatment would have.
At Clondalkin Dental, we prioritise your care and provide a warranty for all our treatments. If any issues arise, we’re here to resolve them promptly—no need for costly flights or long waits to see a dentist. Having a local dentist who knows your dental history is invaluable. Imagine needing a follow-up and being forced to book an international trip just for a check-up.
We understand that budget plays a big role in your decision. If cost is a concern and you’re considering destinations like Turkey for affordable care, it’s worth knowing that we offer flexible options to ease the financial burden. At Clondalkin Dental, we provide detailed treatment plans and allow patients to split the cost over multiple visits. Additionally, An Post offers competitive dental treatment loans, so there’s no need to max out your credit card in one go.
Your health, convenience, and long-term peace of mind are worth investing in.
What is oral surgery and what sorts of oral surgery services do you provide at Clondalkin Dental?
Oral surgery is a specialised field focused on treating diseases and conditions of the mouth and teeth.
For soft tissue issues, we often see patients with skin conditions that affect the mouth. Some patients may also visit us for a biopsy if something suspicious is detected in the oral cavity.
When it comes to teeth, wisdom teeth removal is one of the most common reasons patients seek oral surgery. However, we also handle many other complex tooth extractions.
Additionally, we provide services like bone grafting and surgical procedures for dental implants.
I feel anxious about my dental procedure, can I have sedation?
We offer an IV Sedation service for oral surgeries such as teeth extractions, implants, bone grafting, and more. IV Sedation involves administering medication through a vein in the back of your hand or arm. This makes you feel drowsy and less aware of the procedure. While you will remain awake—making it a very safe option—you won’t be conscious of the time the procedure takes, and you may not remember much of it afterward.
If you are scheduled for IV Sedation, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing, as we will need to monitor your blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels during the procedure.
If you are feeling nervous about your treatment or have questions about sedation, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
My wisdom teeth aren’t currently causing any discomfort. Should I have them removed or leave them be?
Not everyone needs to have their wisdom teeth removed. However, there are specific reasons why removal might be recommended:
- Decay: Wisdom teeth, or the adjacent teeth, can develop decay because the area is difficult to clean effectively.
- Recurrent Infections: Infections and inflammation in the gum tissue around wisdom teeth can occur repeatedly. These infections can sometimes become serious and even spread into the neck.
- Awkward Positioning: Wisdom teeth that sit in awkward positions are unlikely to come through properly, often causing long-term issues.
If you have a history of any of these problems, or if we determine you’re at high risk for developing them, we may recommend removing your wisdom teeth. That said, every case is unique, and we will have to assess your situation and discuss the best course of action with you.
